====== LLBC Shop Access & Personal Projects Policy ====== This document is intended to set explicit and consistent standards for everyone on how the shop can be used by those with 24-hour access to keep use of the space equitable and focused on our main priorities as an organization: redistribution and equitable access to bikes and their repair. ==== Shop access and use ==== Members, shop hosts, and other friends of the shop have 24-hour access to the space via the building and shop door codes. Folks with shop access are allowed and encouraged to utilize the shop, tools, stands, and spare parts during off-hours for personal projects. Please note that our [[policy:community_agreements]] are always in effect at the shop, even when it is not open to the public: //We take care of ourselves, each other, and the space.// We ask for consent.\\ We welcome and learn from mistakes.\\ We don’t make assumptions around anyone’s knowledge or experience.\\ We respect everyone’s identity and background.\\ We don’t use drugs or alcohol in the space.\\ We recognize that bikes are tools; people are the most important! ==== Scheduling conflicts ==== LLBC sometimes hosts events in the shop that are not publicized on our public-facing calendar on the website. For example, our monthly members meetings are not on there. Please know that even if you check the calendar for conflicts prior to coming in, there is a possibility there will be some other event occurring that may prevent you from being able to work on your project. If you are not sure if the shop will be in use and want to check before hauling equipment down to the shop, just ask an LLBC member to cross-reference the private LLBC calendar for you. ==== Personal projects and storage ==== We encourage you to utilize the shop during off-hours for larger more time-intensive projects (e.g. building a bike up from the frame). Off-hours are also a great time for smaller projects that would normally be able to be done during open shop (e.g. replacing shifting cables) in order to keep stands free for the public who come in. Unfinished personal projects can take up a lot of space, and space is a finite resource in the shop. Space taken up by unfinished personal projects takes space away from bikes undergoing repair for redistribution and it is not equitable to allow indefinite storage of projects, parts, etc for projects that are not intended for redistribution. We are therefore setting a policy that personal projects cannot be stored in the shop space, green room, or loft. Storage for personal projects for members of [[:fishmouth_studio]] (the metal shop) in the back of the shop will be handled separately with them. If you have a personal project you want to utilize the shop for, please give yourself ample time to complete the entire thing while you are at the shop, or plan to take it with you in an unfinished state to bring back to the shop later. ==== Exceptions ==== This is not a hard-and-fast rule and you will not get “in trouble” if you misjudge the complexity of a project and end up in a situation where you need to leave your project in the shop. We are open to making exceptions to this policy as needed, but want to make leaving personal projects overnight in the shop a rare exception, not the rule.
