Lefty Loosey E-Bike/Gas Bike Policy

It is a priority of Lefty Loosey Bike Collective to provide space, tools and assistance for community members to safely fix their bicycles. Our priority is access to low-barrier transit and recreation, through mechanical bicycles.

Due to safety concerns, Lefty Loosey does not allow gas powered bikes in the shop.
Whether home-built or store-bought, gas-powered bicycles are significantly more dangerous and require different knowledge and skillsets to work on, which our volunteers may not be qualified for. You may not bring gas-powered bikes inside, though you are welcome to browse for replacement parts, such as tires and tubes, to take home and replace yourself.

Lefty Loosey allows E-Bikes in the shop to work on MECHANICAL components. All E-Bikes with a throttle must be disconnected/turned off while they are in the shop.
E-Bikes are welcome in the shop. However, volunteers at Lefty Loosey cannot and will not assist with working on any electrical components, as they require a completely different skillset and are more dangerous to work on.

Lefty Loosey strongly advises against retrofitting bicycles to be gas- or electric-powered.
Regular bicycles do not have tires or brakes intended to function at such high speeds, and should not be forced to do so. For those looking for a power assisted bike, we recommend pedal assist E-Bikes over throttle E-Bikes, as they are much safer, and can only contribute power when the user is also pedaling.
